"On the Cutting Edge". Super Lawyers Profiles Kevin Benedicto on Law, AI, and Public Service
Benedicto & Simonovich LLP is proud to announce that founding partner Kevin Benedicto has been named to the 2026 Super Lawyers Northern California Rising Stars list — marking his third consecutive selection to this prestigious designation.
In addition, Super Lawyers Magazine has published an in-depth feature on Kevin in its 2026 Northern California edition. Titled "On the Cutting Edge," the profile explores his practice at the intersection of law, technology, and public service — and the personal story that has shaped his career.
About the Rising Stars Designation
The Super Lawyers Rising Stars list is one of the most competitive peer-recognition distinctions in the legal profession. Selection is limited to the top 2.5% of eligible attorneys in each state — those who are 40 years old or younger, or who have been in practice for ten years or less.
Selection results from a rigorous, patented multi-phase process that combines: peer nominations from attorneys who have personally observed the candidate in action — as opposing counsel, co-counsel, or in court; Independent research evaluating indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement; and panel review in which in which top-ranked candidates evaluate their peers within their practice area and firm-size category.
Being named three consecutive times reflects not only strong peer recognition, but consistent excellence across the full cycle of evaluation each year.
“On the Cutting Edge”: A Profile of Kevin Benedicto
Super Lawyers Magazine's feature — written by Rebecca Mariscal and published in the June 2026 Northern California edition — paints a portrait of a lawyer driven as much by personal conviction as by professional achievement.
Kevin's path to law was shaped by his family's history. His grandather was a lawyer in the Philippines, and his parents fled their homeland during the Marcos dictatorship. "They really always instilled in me and my sister that they came here to give us a chance of a life in a country that's governed by the rule of law," Kevin says in the article.
After years as a teacher and then law school in 2012, Kevin built a practice focused on commercial litigation, artificial intelligence, and e-discovery — areas he finds compelling precisely because they are constantly evolving. As he describes it, discovery underpins the entire litigation process: every exhibit at trial, every witness statement, begins in discovery. The sophistication of that process is accelerating rapidly.
On artificial intelligence specifically, Kevin notes that the question of whether AI will transform legal practice has already been answered. The focus now must shift to how to deploy it responsibly — preserving privileges, maintaining confidentiality, and keeping pace with legal standards that are still being developed in real time. His work includes both counseling clients on AI best practices and representing them in AI-related litigation.
Beyond his private practice, Kevin serves as a member of the San Francisco Police Commission, the civilian oversight body of the SFPD, having been appointed in 2022 after more than a decade of pro bono work on law enforcement and criminal justice reform. He also served as a voting rights fellow during the 2020 election, working on litigation to protect ballot access in Alaska and to extend voter registration deadlines in Virginia after a power outage knocked out registration servers days before the deadline.
Throughout the profile, a consistent thread emerges: a belief that lawyers hold significant power to navigate systems that are opaque and complex — and a responsibility to use that power in service of fairness.
